Curator Role (paid position)
Regional Art Services Network CQU (RASN CQUniversity ) in partnership with Art-Port (a public and community art project between the Gladstone Airport Corporation and A Country Arts Practice ) invites organizations, groups, businesses and sole traders within the Gladstone Region, to submit an Expression of Interest to host and curate 6 exhibitions at Art-Port from July 2023 – July 2025.
To date, Art-Port has showcased the results of 15 community art projects from the Gladstone Region. It is unique in concept and is the only of its kind where community artworks are showcased in a public art setting, in a regional airport of Australia. The space has an audience ranging between 350- 700 per day, making it a distinctive contribution to tourism of the region, and an excellent profile raising opportunity to the participating artists. Now entering its fourth year, Art-Port has partnered with RASN for Expressions of Interest to be submitted for this space to be curated by Gladstone Region creatives.
Location: Art-Port is a public art space at the Gladstone Airport.

The role:
This opportunity will include a Curator’s fee of $6,000.00 (for a two year period) which also includes support and mentoring from certified and experienced curators within the Regional Arts Services Network team. GST will apply if nominated business/organization is registered for GST.
The selection criteria are as follows:
- Exhibition Proposal for six
- Exhibitions to best represent the region; with a focus on community and culture.
- Open to emerging and established arts practitioners from the Gladstone Region.
- At least one exhibition per year to feature a First Nations Artist/s.
- Applicant to hold an ABN
- Applicants must hold current Public Liability Insurance to the amount of $20,000,000
The space is located within the terminal building, at a location at the discretion of Gladstone Airport Corporation. The space will be provided to the successful candidate on a ‘free of charge’ basis for the term of the agreement. Two 2 x 2-meter plinths are available to utilize, to showcase both 2 and 3-D works.

In addition, a space will be allocated to exhibit the 2-meter wide and 3 meter tall aluminum Christmas tree, for the duration of the festive period.
Conditions:
The artwork will be displayed at the artist’s and curators’ own risk, and any damages cannot be claimed against Gladstone Airport Corporation, unless caused by deliberate act or negligence of a Gladstone Airport Corporation employee.
The successful candidate should hold the applicable insurances, to cover any damages to the artworks, property or sustained by the public as a result of the display.
All artwork must be approved by the Chief Executive Officer of Gladstone Airport Corporation, prior to being publicly displayed.
Art-Port also advises that the applicant/s familiarize themselves with Gladstone Regional Council’s Public Art Policy.

About the assessment:
A panel consisting of representatives from the Gladstone Airport Corporation, Art-Port and the Regional Arts Services Network will meet and review all applications submitted and will respond to all applicants, advising them of the outcome at a date to be confirmed.
